Build smarter aquaculture for Africa

Aqualabs is an aquaculture biotechnology research company building smarter aquaculture for Africa. We bring together researchers, engineers, and operators to make controlled fish production more measurable, resilient, and repeatable. If you are drawn to hard biological and engineering problems with real stakes, we would like to hear from you.

Building Aqualabs

We are building the research, tools, and operating discipline needed to make controlled aquaculture work reliably in African conditions.

Principles that guide our work

01

Start with the living system

Fish health, water quality, and biological performance come before the elegance of any tool. We build technology around the organism and the operator, not the other way around.

02

Follow the evidence

We test assumptions, keep useful records, and change our minds when the system tells us something new. Clear measurements matter more than confident stories.

03

Do the simple thing that works

Aquaculture is already complex. We prefer direct experiments, understandable systems, and practical improvements that can survive outside a presentation.

04

Build for African conditions

Our work begins with the realities of water, energy, inputs, climate, and operations across the continent. Local constraints are design inputs, not edge cases.

What we are looking for

We care about what you can build, investigate, and improve—not just where you learned to do it. Independent research, field work, thoughtful writing, practical engineering, and operating experience all count.

Put the work you are most proud of at the top of your application. We want to understand how you approach difficult problems, what you have learned by doing, and why this work matters to you.

Work across disciplines

Aquaculture does not fit neatly inside one field. Biologists work closely with engineers, software is shaped by daily farm realities, and research has to hold up in physical systems. We value depth in your craft and the curiosity to work well beyond it.

We are a small team, so clarity, judgment, generosity, and a willingness to help where the work needs you matter as much as a conventional title.

Our policy for using AI in the application process

Please do not use AI tools to write or produce any part of your application. Every application is reviewed by hand, and we want to understand your own experience, judgment, and communication.

Every application is read by a person.
